Defining Data Governance

A Formal Definition

Data Governance defines decision rights, obligations, accountability, and access for information related processes, that are defined and conducted by established models outlining who can take what actions with which information, when, under set circumstances, using specific methods.

A Real World Definition

Data Governance ensures intellectually property rights are protected to maximise revenue for IDC and its data sources through effective policing of permitted data usage.

Data Governance must, therefore, be seen in terms of dollar impact.
